Getting rid of unwanted offerings might be seen as somewhat rude – unless it's done the right way.
A Charitable Clear-Out
The leader of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, is set to sell a reported 270 presents received by her by international figures on official trips. This unusual assortment could include objects like a chainsaw-wielding statuette of Argentina's leader Javier Milei and a pair of exotic blue snake-skin shoes with gold heels.
The presents, together, are worth an estimated €800,000. They will be put up for sale in a public auction by a Rome-based fine art auction house. A date has not been finalized, but the intention is to hold the auction before Christmas, with the proceeds donated to a selection of charitable causes.
Storage Room Collection
The presents reportedly stored in a secure area on the third floor of Palazzo Chigi. It has been reported that Meloni additionally intending to auction off gifts given to her political forerunners that have been gathering dust for years.
A complete inventory is yet to be officially released, but partial details emerged earlier this year when a comprehensive document of all declared gifts was reviewed by officials. The discussion raised if a rule restricting expensive presents was being followed. According to regulation, a prime minister must declare presents worth more than €300.
A Global Array of Gifts
The collection includes:
- A scarf from the leader of Albania, allegedly given to Meloni for her birthday during a meeting abroad.
- A sari from Kerala from the Indian leader.
- A set of adornments from the president of Slovakia.

"Possibly the most unusual gifts were the Milei figurine and the blue python skin shoes," one might note.

Supporters have applauded Meloni, particularly from her allies, with garnering support from foreign leaders and positioning Italy as a prominent force on the world stage once again.
