Just as Storm Claudia hit the northwest the night before, Manchester City overwhelmed Manchester United away at the their home ground. It was a convincing three-nil triumph for their manager's side owing to goals from Knaak, Shaw and Lauren Hemp. It was a result that clearly signaled their leadership claims as they reinforced their place at the WSL pinnacle.

Back-to-Back Losses for United

This outcome represented consecutive Women's Super League losses for Skinner's side for the initial occasion since last May, putting them seven points off the table toppers with their title hopes in serious doubt.

A short time later, they had a third goal after a quick shift in the ball saw Hemp given the opportunity to drive a shot home from range.

Final Period

The clearest substitution came from the United manager at the interval as Melvine Malard came on for Terland but by this time it was ineffective to alter the outcome of the contest. Ex- City player Jess Park came most likely to score, striking the post, but the away team were lacking in ideas and did not manage to register a one shot on target.

The hosts, in contrast, could have extended their cushion when a delightful Miedema long ball sent Bunny Shaw away only for her to fail to convert but it was insignificant to the winning team. Having failed to overcome any team who finished above them in the prior term, Jeglertz’s side now have successes against Arsenal and United to put them in a commanding standing after nine matches.
