Her Royal Highness's Annual Christmas Carol Concert Spotlights Community Volunteers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her yearly Yuletide celebration at the iconic London venue, with guests including royals, celebrities and local heroes who have helped their communities.

The sizable congregation will enjoy a mix of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from stars like award-winning actors.

A Theme of Kindness and Compassion

The theme of the service, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.

Attending the event are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose daughter died of a brain cancer, and who established a foundation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often quietly and unspoken, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an extraordinary difference to the well-being of people," wrote Catherine in a letter ahead of the carol service.

Carefully Paced Reappearance

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own gradual return to public life following her health challenges and treatment, last month delivering her initial major address in two years, in which she discussed recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Musical Talent and Access

Those coming to the Abbey will be entertained by talented youth performers backed by the Future Talent organisation, co-founded by the Duchess of Kent to widen access to instrumental training.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who plays the trumpet and is from Pembrokeshire, has been helped by the organisation, with funding assisting with musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "incredible" to be performing at the evening's event.

"Pursuing music is often costly," Carys said. She is now studying at the prestigious music academy, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to cultivate their performance abilities.

Generations Gathering

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will also be at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many important people," she said.

Within the audience will be representatives of different generations.

That will feature Saphia Turner, aged nine, winner of a youth community award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to generate funds for community pantries.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been festooned with specially made wreaths, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

Taking to the stage will be recording artist Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a Cornish sea shanty group, Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the perfect culmination."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be televised and shown on television on December 24th.
