Fantastic Update: Amazon's Mass Effect Streaming Series Is Going to Take Place After the Events of the Initial Trilogy

Ever since last year that it was formally announced that Amazon would be creating a online series based on BioWare's ME franchise, fans speculated if it had the guts to present an new story and refrain from focusing on Commander Shepard, the customizable hero from the first games. In a website announcement Friday, they got their answer.

BioWare senior producer Mike Gamble confirmed the show would "delve into a completely new story within the universe’s timeline, and will be located following the initial trilogy." The message adds, "This will not be a retread of Commander Shepard’s story – as ultimately … that’s YOUR story, right?"

Ostensibly, this indicates the show could be about the species of the Milky Way rebuilding the galaxy in the wake of destruction caused by the reapers. It might also be set centuries in the tomorrow, like Mass Effect: Andromeda. "Following the original trilogy" provides plenty for the creativity. Not any actors have been declared yet, but Star Trek Beyond writer Doug Jung was selected to serve as head writer and producer in June. Daniel Casey is also a screenwriter and producer on the series.

Regarding the forthcoming Mass Effect release, Gamble's update keeps quiet about a lot of information. In response to the speculation and speculation that BioWare may be divested as due to EA's multi-billion dollar sale to private investors, such as Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, Gamble reiterates "the next Mass Effect game is in production, and EA and BioWare continue to be committed to presenting additional narratives in this setting."

BioWare is "heads-down and dedicated solely on Mass Effect," teasing that the group has "plenty of world to explore, many aspects to create, and many love stories to figure out" for the forthcoming game. "We look forward by what we’re building, and we promise you: once we’re set, it’ll be a exciting moment to reveal."

Several symbols are highlighted in the post, and combined they read "N7 Krogan URL." The meaning is unclear what this is referring to, even if it's certainly indicating something — the announcement concludes with a teasing P.S. noting, "Warning: there is zero hidden game information to be gleaned by anything I am stating now, I swear."

The Krogan are highlighted in complimentary images EA released for fans to download in honor of N7 Day. Named "Faction Battle," the image displays multiple Krogan in combat. Along with the "N7 Krogan URL" hint, it's likely one more minor hint on the road to the forthcoming Mass Effect.

November 7 marks N7 Day each year, a time for BioWare and Mass Effect fans to celebrate the sci-fi saga. Usually the time that BioWare has suggested the forthcoming new game, like how in 2023 it displayed an N7 operative in a stylish coat.
